Laucala Island Resort
A Fijian island with its own airstrip, farms and golf course — closed for all of 2026.
Laucala is a large island in northern Fiji, near Taveuni, with its own airstrip, working farms, a herd of cattle, a golf course and 25 villas spread across coast, hill and forest. One property occupies the island, and it is large enough that guests move by buggy. The farms supply a substantial part of what the kitchens use, which is unusual at this scale and this remoteness.
The resort closed in February 2026 for a comprehensive renovation and structural overhaul, with bookings blacked out through December 2026; reopening is slated for February 2027. The COMO partnership, in place since 2021, ended at the same time, and the island reverted to independent management under Laucala Island Resort Limited. Twenty-five villas before the closure and twenty-five planned after. The COMO period is held as a separate entry here, because a change of operator makes a new record rather than an edit to the old one.

Twenty-five villas on an island this large produces a density closer to a private estate than a resort, and explains why guests rarely encounter each other.
Who it is not for
Laucala is wrong for anyone travelling before February 2027: the island is closed for the whole of 2026 and bookings are blacked out through December. It is wrong for guests who want a small island they can walk — this one needs a vehicle. And it is wrong for travellers who want an easy journey: Fiji, then a domestic connection, then the island's own strip. For Fiji now, look at Kokomo or Turtle Island.
